About
The late Caleb Pirtle III organized the Authors Marketing Cooperative in mid-2020. The purpose was to harness the collective reach of a dozen authors to promote each other’s books.But writers like to write and it didn’t take long for the co-op to come up with the idea to put together a member collection of short stories to aid the joint marketing efforts.Beyond the Sea: Stories from the Underground was published in April 2021. And with the publication of the story collection, the co-op began calling itself the Underground Authors.Little did the authors realize that with the publication of Beyond the Sea things were about to change and change in a way they couldn’t even imagine.
Magnolia Bluff Crime Chronicles
In May 2021, coming back from an online writers conference, CW Hawes proposed that the Underground Authors write a multi-author series. After a flurry of emails that sketched out the broad picture, the important landmarks and the main characters each writer would use in his or her books, the Magnolia Bluff Crime Chronicles was born.
The series revolves around the goings on in the small (fictional) Texas Hill Country town of Magnolia Bluff. The lives, loves, and deaths that happen in our town are chronicled by each author. A dozen different perspectives on life in Magnolia Bluff, Texas. That beautiful and peaceful little town on the shore of Burnet Reservoir, where murder waits in the wings.
We are now in our fourth year and Magnolia Bluff has taken on a life of its own. For the writers and readers, the town has become a real place.
We are amazed at the wonderful reception the series has received. It’s exciting to know that we have something that is a little bit unique in the world of crime fiction.
So sit back and enjoy this chapter in the ongoing saga that is Magnolia Bluff. If this is your first visit, you are in for a delightful treat. And if you are a return visitor, well, you know what to expect: humor, suspense, and people you care about.

Coming in January 2026 is a new series from the Underground Authors. The new series will be a departure from the Magnolia Bluff murder mystery genre. Tales From Car 4488 will be a Fantasy series stepping off from the NYC subway system. Stay tuned for release dates and news about the series.
The Underground Authors started out in 2020 as the Author Marketing Cooperative with 12 members, under the leadership of the late Caleb Pirtle III.
Since that time we’ve had members come and members go. However, we remain a dozen authors committed to promoting each others’ work, believing that a rising tide floats all boats.
